Lugar Initiative Drew Obama’s Support

Richard Lugar, who has been a contender for the award. In addition to honoring Obama for his "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples," the Norwegian Nobel Committee said it "attached special importance to Obama's vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons."
