Daily Mail [UK], by Staff Posted By: Photoonist- Tue, 31 May 2011 23:54:46 GMT Flying, swooping and floating turbines are being developed to turn high'altitude winds into electricity. Scientists estimate the energy in the jet streams is 100 times the amount needed to power the whole world annually. Cristina Archer, an atmospheric scientist at the California State University in Chico, said there's 'not a doubt anymore' that high'altitude winds will be tapped for power. Some companies project their technology will hit the market by the middle of the decade, but Fort Felker at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory says the industry is 10 years away from making a meaningful contribution to the nation's electricity

The New Yorker, by Seymour M. Hersh Posted By: Photoonist- Tue, 31 May 2011 23:48:03 GMT Abstract: Annals of national security about whether Irans nuclear program is being exaggerated. Is Iran actively trying to develop nuclear weapons? Members of the Obama Administration often talk as if this were a foregone conclusion, as did their predecessors under George W. Bush. Theres a large body of evidence, however, including some of Americas most highly classified intelligence assessments, suggesting that the U.S. could be in danger of repeating a mistake similar to the one made with Saddam Husseins Iraq eight years agoallowing anxieties about the policies of a tyrannical regime to distort our estimates of the states military capacities

Daily Mail [UK], by Staff Posted By: Photoonist- Tue, 31 May 2011 23:43:34 GMT Furious parents yesterday criticised a school after they were asked to buy their children baggy clothes to deter paedophiles. King's Park Secondary School, in Glasgow, asked parents to ensure modesty in their children's uniform in a bizarre letter which claims sex offenders may be taking pictures of schoolboys in tight trousers. The letter, dubbed 'paranoid in the extreme' by one parent, was sent home even though police say there have been no incidents of schoolchildren in the area being targeted.

Register [London, UK], by Lewis Page Posted By: Photoonist- Tue, 31 May 2011 23:38:07 GMT North Korea is assembling a powerful fleet of hovercraft to menace the South's northwestern islands, according to the Seoul government. The Chosun Ilbo reports that government sources have said that a large Nork base with berths for 60 "hovercraft and stealth air'cushion warships", under construction at Koampo in Hwanghae province, is almost complete. A hover fleet based there would be in position to mount an attack on Southern islands before the South's military could respond. National Review, by Kevin D. Williamson Posted By: cap MarineTet68- Tue, 31 May 2011 23:16:27 GMT Andrew Dickson White (18321918) was a great American all'rounder: LL.D., Ph.D., D.C.L., co'founder of Cornell University, president of the American Historical Association, ambassador to Russia and Germany. He had a number of curious obsessions, as testified to by the many volumes in his extensive personal library on three not entirely unrelated subjects: the Reformation, witchcraft, and the monetary policy of revolutionary France a trio of faith'based initiatives. Witches and Lutherans today stand on equal footing, at least under the law (the law is a ass), since nobody much thinks that sort of thing is terribly important anymore,

Agence France Presse, by Staff Posted By: Desert Fox- Tue, 31 May 2011 22:48:01 GMT Young people's fascination with television, the Internet, video games and other electronic entertainment is making it more difficult to protect the world's biodiversity, a UN official warned Tuesday. Because many young people are urbanised and alienated from nature, they may not realise the value of protecting natural ecosystems and species, said Ahmed Djoghlaf, the United Nations executive secretary on biological diversity. "Our children are behind their computers, their SMS, their videogames, watching TV. They are living in a virtual world and we need to re'connect them with nature," Djoghlaf told a Southeast Asian biodiversity forum in Manila.

The Palin family and a few members of her staff sneaked out of their hotel early, leaving their flashy bus behind in the hotel parking lot to give reporters chasing her the impression that she was still readying for the day.
