Financial Times: Breitbart Shapes Conservative Agenda

From today’s Financial Times:

“When Andrew Breitbart first saw video footage of workers from Acorn, a community activist group, telling two undercover reporters how to set up a brothel and avoid paying taxes he knew he had a big scoop on his hands.

“The conservative commentator also knew the series of undercover videos, which caused an outcry when he released them last month on his BigGovernment website, would be dismissed by what he calls the “mainstream media”.

““The mainstream media are not story driven, they are ideology driven,” he says in an interview with the Financial Times. “They are universally left of centre and they protect their own . . . their raison d’être is to put pressure on anyone that would dare challenge their aggressive ideology.”

“The media outlets criticised by Mr Breitbart, which include CNN and the New York Times, reject accusations of bias. However, Mr Breitbart argues that liberal bias is inherent and admits to pursuing his own ideological aims through his websites. His policy has been rewarded with plenty of online traffic: September brought almost 11m unique users to his sites and 35m page views. (more…)

Michael Moore On ‘Hannity’

Parts II , III, and discussion points after the jump:

Sean Hannity and Michael Moore had a discussion of sorts on ‘Hannity’ tonight.  It was certainly an event to see Moore on a conservative’s show (much like Al Gore, Moore is notorious for not going toe to toe with prominent conservatives).  The conversation itself seemed disjointed and a lot time was spent by both Hannity and Moore jockeying to set the agenda instead of clarifying and challenging differences.  Moore came off as plenty appealing, a jovial and confidant representative for his side, but just as with Obama’s speeches, you would get a completely different perception of the man and his ideas if you read what he said instead of watched it.  And by different, we mean nauseating.

More analysis from Big Hollywood contributors is likely to follow, but we’re turning you all loose now.  Some discussion bullet points:

-“I’m not a multi-multi millionaire.” -Michael Moore

-Apparently our foes in the Middle East are perpetually on monkey bars….?

-Christians are in no position to judge the 9/11 terrorists.

-Is there a conservative on Earth who could get away with invoking God and religion as much as Moore does?

-Hannity was soft on Moore. Good or bad move?

Have at it.

Michael Savage to Debate Free Speech at Cambridge Union Oct. 15th

(San Francisco, CA) Michael Savage, ’shock-jock’ author of over 25 books with a radio audience of 10 million listeners who was banned from entering the United Kingdom in May by Gordon Brown will argue against the insanity of ‘political correctness’ on Thursday, October 15 at 8:00pm GMT. Savage will appear via internet link to argue his case for freedom of speech.

MIAC37

Quoting Winston Churchill, who said, “You see these dictators on their pedestals, surrounded by the bayonets of their soldiers and the truncheons of their police. They are afraid of words and thoughts! Words spoken abroad, thoughts stirring at home, all the more powerful because they are forbidden. These terrify them. A little mouse – a little tiny mouse! -of thought appears in the room, and even the mightiest potentates are thrown into panic…” Savage will attempt to ’save England from a descent into mental slavery where petty bureaucrats dictate what can and cannot be discussed.” (more…)

Althouse: ‘Am I wrong to see Moore as an anti-Semite?’

moore_l

Ann Althouse:

“The most striking thing in the movie was the religion. I think Moore is seriously motivated by Christianity. He says he is (and has been since he was a boy). And he presented various priests, Biblical quotations, and movie footage from “Jesus of Nazareth” to make the argument that Christianity requires socialism. With this theme, I found it unsettling that in attacking the banking system, Moore presented quite a parade of Jewish names and faces. He never says the word “Jewish,” but I think the anti-Semitic theme is there. We receive long lectures about how capitalism is inconsistent with Christianity, followed a heavy-handed array of — it’s up to you to see that they are — Jewish villains.
“Am I wrong to see Moore as an anti-Semite? I don’t know, but the movie worked as anti-Semitic propaganda. I had to struggle to fight off the idea the movie seemed to want to plant in my head.”

‘Red Eye’ Resurgence: More Demo Viewers Watch Fox At 3am Than CNN at 8pm

From Mediaite:

redeye_10-5

Fox News’ 3amET comedy/news hybrid Red Eye is in a league of its own when it comes to cable news shows. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t a player in the ratings.

Despite its late (or early, depending on your sleep habits) start time, the ratings for the show continue to improve, and surprisingly, top some cable news competition you might not expect.

Last week we were forwarded this message board post on ActivityPit.com – Red Eye’s online community that feeds its dedicated base of fans. Here’s a part:

The ratings came out for September and Red Eye is up over 30% in total viewers and up 50% in the key demo (25-54) since July. They have more overall viewers than every CNBC show, every MSNBC show that is on before Hardball, most of HLN, and American Morning on CNN.

Shock: Obama Not Left Enough for SNL

SNL finally took on Obama in earnest this weekend:

This sketch wasn’t aimed at Rahm Emanuel, Joe the Biden, or Tim Geithner… it was targeting the Man himself.  But did SNL really turn over a new leaf?  Nope.  The criticism leveled at Obama was that he is failing to execute the brilliantly conceived left-wing aspects of his agenda as stated in his campaign.  Of course, there is no casting judgment on those ideas and no mention that most of America doesn’t actually support them.

This is a tactic Bill Maher has mastered.  He has repeatedly leveled humorous critique at Obama, but the arguments always hinge around Obama not behaving like the left-winger we thought we elected.

While it was refreshing to see a sketch where Obama is the punch line, Big Hollywood’s massive editorial staff is still unimpressed (and un-amused, but that’s for another post).

We invite you to use the comments to list some of the things Obama has thus far failed to do that would have appeared in the sketch had the writers been more sympathetic to those of the center-right persuasion.
