White House gives Romney a social issues death hug

Washington Post, by Greg Sargent Posted By: garnet- Thu, 09 Feb 2012 15:29:28 GMT It’s interesting that the White House rolled this one out just after Mitt Romney’s drubbing in three contests yesterday — one that was largely driven by Romney’s inability to connect with social conservatives. At the press briefing just now, White House press secretary Jay Carney twice highlighted the fact that as Governor of Massachusetts, Romney supported a contraception policy that was very similar to the one Obama has now adpoted, to much criticism. Romney has been attacking Obama over the issue, and Carney was asked to respond.

Mortgage deal could bring billions in mortgage relief

CNN, by Chris Isidore & Jennifer Liberto Posted By: JoniTx- Thu, 09 Feb 2012 15:27:28 GMT WASHINGTON' In the largest deal to date aimed at addressing the housing meltdown, federal and state officials on Thursday announced a $26 billion foreclosure settlement with five of the largest home lenders. The deal settles potential state charges about allegations of improper foreclosures based on "robosigning," seizures made without proper paperwork. Most of the relief will go to those who owe far more than their homes are worth, known as being underwater on the loans. That relief will come over the course of the next three years, with the banks having incentives to provide

Lib: “Repulsive progressive hypocrisy”

Daily Mail [Charleston, WV], by Don Surber Posted By: Artie Choke- Thu, 09 Feb 2012 15:23:17 GMT Glenn Greenwald became a liberal blogging star in the Bush years with lengthy, mean'spirited and intemperate posts about conservatives in general and the president in particular. Now he is turning his guns on liberals. Apparently he has discovered that all the things they said about President Bush were not based on any principles but rather on temporal partisanship. Imagine that. Topping the list of political opportunists is, of course, Barack Obama.

When life flash’mobbed before my eyes

Philadelphia Inquirer, by Molly Eichel Posted By: JoniTx- Thu, 09 Feb 2012 15:20:59 GMT 'IT WAS MY BUDDY, my goofy and loving and hilarious friend. He was being kicked. He probably had never harmed anyone in his life and he was curled in the little ball and a mob of kids were kicking him and laughing." I was at Boys' Latin of Philadelphia Charter School last week listening to a group of high'schoolers say these words, Greek chorus'style, during a rehearsal of their original show, "PHLash: A Mob Story." They will perform it tonight through Saturday. My heart beat faster and my palms got clammy.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement Hires Officer to Chat With Detainees

Big Government, by Ben Shapiro Posted By: KarenJ1- Thu, 09 Feb 2012 15:19:17 GMT In a time when America’s immigration system is swamped – when illegal immigrants are routinely caught and released, many of whom are dangerous – it seems that one of ICE’s top priorities is public relations with illegal immigration advocates. Yesterday, Andrew Lorenzen'Strait announced via the Department of Homeland Security website that he had been named ICE’s “first'ever public advocate.” His job will be to “serve as a point of contact for individuals, including those in immigration proceedings, NGOs, and other community and advocacy groups, who have concerns, questions, recommendations or important issues they would like to raise.”

Cybercast News Service, by Eric Scheiner Posted By: KarenJ1- Thu, 09 Feb 2012 15:16:10 GMT In his speech in Cairo on June 4, 2009 President Barack Obama stressed the importance of the freedom of religion in the United States. “Freedom in America is indivisible from the freedom to practice one's religion,” The president said during his speech given at Cairo University. “That is why there is a mosque in every state in our union and over 1,200 mosques within our borders. That’s why the United States government has gone to court to protect the right of women and girls to wear the hijab and to punish those who would deny it.”

CAIR’s Crusade against The Third Jihad

Jewish World review, by Clifford D. May Posted By: M'79- Thu, 09 Feb 2012 15:06:01 GMT M. Zuhdi Jasser is a physician, a U.S. Navy veteran, an American patriot, and a Muslim who does not hold with those who preach that Islam commands its followers to take part in a war against unbelievers. The Third Jihad, a documentary film that Jasser narrated, takes a hard look at those Muslims who are waging this war — both with bombs and by stealthier means. The film had been among the educational materials used to train New York City police officers dealing with terrorism.

Why Santorum’s Not Going Away Anytime Soon

New Republic, by Walter Shapiro Posted By: garnet- Thu, 09 Feb 2012 14:54:28 GMT Maybe Republicans in their anti'Romney desperation have inadvertently stumbled on an artful new way to fuse religion and politics—every presidential long'shot gets not one but two resurrections. Rick Santorum is officially back from the crypt, and his period in limbo has done him well. For the first time during the 2012 campaign cycle, it actually seems sensible to take Santorum seriously for the long haul. You couldn’t say that after his narrow victory in Iowa. They say the curse of insurgent campaigns is that they never have the resources to plan how to exploit
