The Worst Movie Year Ever?

Wall Street Journal, by Joe Queenan Posted By: Photoonist- Sat, 31 Jul 2010 19:46:10 GMT In the new movie "Inception," Leonardo DiCaprio burrows deep into the subconscious of a self'absorbed plutocrat to plant a powerful idea that will change the world. If the technology used in "Inception" were available in real life, Mr. DiCaprio might burrow into the subconscious of Hollywood plutocrats and plant these paradigm'altering ideas: Stop making movies like "Grown Ups," "Sex and the City 2," (Snip) And if "Legion" and "Edge of Darkness" and "The Back'up Plan" and "Hot Tub Time Machine" are the best you can do, stop making movies, period. Humanity will thank you for it.

The Nakba Obsession

City Journal, by Sol Stern Posted By: Judy W.- Sat, 31 Jul 2010 19:16:39 GMT A specter is haunting the prospective Israeli'Palestinian peace negotiations—the specter of the Nakba. The literal meaning of the Arabic word is “disaster”; but in its current, expansive usage, it connotes a historical catastrophe inflicted on an innocent and blameless people (in this case, the Palestinians) by an overpowering outside force (international Zionism). The Nakba is the heart of the Palestinians’ backward'looking national narrative, which depicts the creation of the State of Israel in 1948 as the original sin that dispossessed the land’s native people.

The elite’s bogus appeal to ‘authority’

American Thinker, by Tom Rowan Posted By: Dreadnought- Sat, 31 Jul 2010 18:22:10 GMT One of the ruling class's favorite propaganda points is that they are smart and if you disagree with them you, in fact, are dumb. Historian Paul Johnson pointed out the liberal ruling class's penchant for self puffery when he wrote Intellectuals. To give you an idea of where Johnson was going, chapter 1 is titled ' Jean'Jacques Rousseau; ‘An Interesting Madman.' In the book Intellectuals and Society, Thomas Sowell exposes the "intellectual" ruling class who, as National Review put it, "Exalt themselves by denigrating our society ' and are working to destroy it."

Andy Griffith: You’ll like Washington’s health care reform

The Christian Science Monitor, by Laurent Belsie Posted By: BeatleJeff- Sat, 31 Jul 2010 17:36:35 GMT Does the money spent on political issue ads really work? Sometimes. Sixteen years ago, a fictional couple called Harry and Louise bashed the Clinton health care plan so memorably in TV ads that they were credited with helping to bring down health care reform. Now, Medicare has recruited actor Andy Griffith in hopes that he can do just the opposite: talk it up. "With the new health care law, more good things are coming," says the former TV star of "The Andy Griffith Show" and "Matlock." " I think you're going to like it."
